Grade Calculator
Convert points earned into a percentage and a letter grade.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the points you earned.
- Enter the total points possible.
- The result shows the percentage and the letter grade on the scale below.
The formula
Percentage = (Points earned ÷ Points possible) × 100- Scale
- A ≥ 93, A− ≥ 90, B+ ≥ 87, B ≥ 83, B− ≥ 80, C+ ≥ 77, C ≥ 73, C− ≥ 70, D+ ≥ 67, D ≥ 63, D− ≥ 60, F < 60
How it works
The score is a simple percentage. The letter grade then maps that percentage onto the common US plus/minus scale shown in the formula box.
Grading scales are set by each school or instructor — treat the letter as a common-convention guide, not a guarantee.
Worked example
You earned 83 points out of 95 on a midterm.
- 183 ÷ 95 ≈ 0.8737
- 20.8737 × 100 ≈ 87.37
87.37%, which maps to a B+ on the scale used here.
